Celebrates Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav “MERI MATI, MERA DESH”
The UGC activity cell of the college in collaboration with department of economics celebrated “Meri Maati Mera Desh” through Collage Competition on 25/09/2023 at audio visual room at 9.30 am. The program began with the panch pran pledge followed by the collage competition participated by first, second and final year students of economics. The first place was bagged by nireeksha and team. The principal Mr.RudraKumar MM, presided over the activity, prof Balachandra Gowda M, spoke vehemently on shilpakalam igniting the young minds. Dr.Vijayalakshmi N.S, Asssitant professor - HOD department of economics and coordinator of UGC activity cell welcomed the gathering. Mr.Vishnuprashanth B, faculty , department of economics, proposed the vote of thanks.
Campaign Towards Registration of Swayam Courses
Department of Economics and Planning forum organized a campaign on 10/6/2022 towards registration of Swayam courses, led by Dr.Vijayalakshmi N.S, Assistant professor and head of the department of economics.

As a source of encouragement and motivation for students, Dr.Vijayalakshmi N.S, along with students has herself registered for the above-stated course.

Release of Two books, Economic Thought and Development Economics, were written by Dr. Prabhakara Sisila.
The unveiling of economics works by the Department of Economics and Financial Planning at Nehru Memorial College, Suliya, was held at the college on November 26. For final graduating students, Two books, "Economic Thought" and "Development Economics", were written by Dr. Prabhakara Sisila. The College Principal Rudrakumar M M presided over the function Udayakrishna B, Principal of KVG Law College preset in the program. And Dr. Prabhakar Sisila a retired principal of NMC and the author of books was the chief guest.

Research Ethics and Plagiarism
On the 23rd January 2021, a one-day faculty development program was organized by Dr.Vijayalakshmi N.S, research cell coordinator, as part of research cell activities for the year 2021–22. The guest speaker Dr.M.Vijay Kumar, Assistant Professor, NGSM Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, NITTE (Deemed to be University) spoke vehemently on the relevance of ethics in the field of research with special emphasis on plagiarism checks to be adopted and followed. The program was presided by our principal Dr.Poovappa Gowda K. The student welfare officer Mr.Rudra Kumar M.M welcomed the gathering and Mrs.Rathnavathi D, IQAC coordinator felicitated the guest speaker. All academic teaching staffs were diligently present for the program held from 11.00 am onwards at the audiovisual room of the institute.
Alumni Interaction Program
Department of economics has organized Alumni Interaction Program on Saturday of 22/09/2018. Passed out seniors batch of 2018 are invited as guests. Final year BA students were participated as delegates. Ms. Krithi M P, Student of PG Studies, Mangalore University has expressed opinion about widened higher education. Ms. Shreelatha and Ms. Akshatha, Students, KVG Law College, Sullia, opined their law education and as well all the seniors gave key information of their own field.
Mr. Vishnuprashanth B, HOD of Economics department, gave information regarding the higher professional courses, and mention different fields which students can build up their currier. Final year students were interacted well with Alumni students and as well with Organizer. Ms. Aksha K and Mr. Rakesh NAik K helped to organize this program.
SELF EMPLOYMENT FOR SELF-SUFFICIENCY
On the date of 16/09/2018 Department of economics and Economic Planning & Forum has organized community program on the topic “SELF EMPLOYMENT FOR SELF-SUFFICIENCY” in G.H.P School Pailar. The program was done under the objective of self employment generation among the rural public. With this objective Mrs. Rashmi Rajanikanth, President, Shaurya Yuvathi Mandala, Pailar, is invited as resource person to the program. The resource person trained the delegates on making of ear rings and bangles, along with this Mrs. Manorama trained the participants regarding preparing of boquet. There are more than 35 delegates were participated in this program.
Convener of Economic planning forum Mr. Vishnuprashanth B key addressed the program. Lecturers of economics department, Mr. Rakesh Naik K proposed welcome speech, and Ms. Aksha K proposed vote of thanks to dignitaries and delegates. Prayer is done by Ms. Charishma and Ms. Disha and Ms. Yakshitha is functional representative of the program.

Community Participation Programme Report
Protection of Environment
The Department of Economics of Nehru Memorial College Sullia, Organized UGC Sponsored One day community participation programme on ‘ Protection of Environment’ on 06/04/2017 at Govt.Higher primary School Aranthodu.
Mr. Sandesh, Drawing teacher of KVG English Medium School Sullia, was the resource person. In this programme he trained the students in making best out of waste .He taught craft work for the students. Craft is one method of keeping environment clean .In that programme he explained the importance of environment .He highlights the causes of environment problems like air pollution, water pollution, noise pollution and solid waste. The unlimited human wants and consumerism creates lots of environmental problems. The modern ‘use and throw’ culture of human beings is the major cause for degradation of the quality of environment. The abundant use of plastic, consumer goods and unscientific practices in agriculture, industry and other activities reduces the opportunities of sustainable development and conservation of resources. According to him the protection of environment is important not only for the steady growth of present generation but also the sustained growth of future generation. The natural resources are the free gift of environment. Every living organism has equal rights on environment .So that the quality of environment is not supposed to destruct by human beings. Finally he reminded the message is that human beings are the part of environment and not the owners of environment.
With this regard he enlightened students by teaching art of crafts for protecting environment by using hazardous solid wastes. Also crafting is a beautiful talent one can adopt.
The Student Welfare Officer of the College Dr. Shakira Jabeen.B, was the president of this programme. She addressed the students about the present scenario of environment and role of young generation in protecting environment .Craft is very beneficial in protecting environment by using solid wastes into beautiful art pieces as well as it makes us to adopt a talent of crafting .
There were 25 students from BA has actively participated in this programme. Mr.Vishnu Prashanth .B and Miss.Aksha .K, of Department of Economics, strived to organize this programme .There was a healthy support from the teachers, members of school development board and parents.

Book release function
Department of Economics organized book release function of 161th and 162nd work of economics by Dr. Prabbhakara Shishila on 04/07/2019 at College Auditorium. Prof Balachandra Gowda, Academic Advisor, NMC Sullia invited as Chief guest for the program and he released the two new text books written by Dr. Prabhakara Shishila “Business Economics” and “Principles of Economics” for I B.com and I BBA respectively. He expressed that “In the present global world economics creating its own demand and as well without proper knowledge of economics it is very difficult to manage the commerce based jobs”.
