Inauguration of Nature Club activities 2017-18
The Nature Club activities for the academic year 2017-18 was inaugurated on Friday 28th July 2017 by Dr. Rohini D Bharadwaj, Professor and HOD, Dept. of Rasashastra and BhaishajyaKalpan, KVG Ayurveda Medical College and HospitalSullia at the College Audio Visual Hall. In this occasion introduced new jersey for Nature Club members.

Guest talk on ‘Cultural and Social Practices for the Preservation of Nature’
Dept. of Botany, Zoology and Chemistry in association with Nature Club conducted special talk on ‘Cultural and Social Practices for the Preservation of Nature’ Rohini D Bharadwaj, Professor and HOD, Dept. of Rasashastra and BhaishajyaKalpan, KVG Ayurveda Medical College and Hospital Sullia at the College Audio Visual Hall on 28/07/2017

Community Oriented Programme ‘Hasiru- Usiru’ at Elimale
One day community oriented programme ‘Hasiru- Usiru’ was conducted by Nature Club in collaboration with science association and local bodies of Devachalla and NellurKemraje village on 30/07/2017 at Government Higher Primary School Elimale. The programme was inaugurated by Mr. DharmapalaGattigaru, Farmer, Elimale. The members of the Nature Club along with the Staff planted more than 60 variety of plants in the school surroundings. In this occasion we felicitated three famous Treditional Medicine Practitioners named Smt. AkkayyaPoojarimane and MadhavaGowdaSulli and also one paddy grower of the village Jagadeesh Olikaje.

Field Visit at Chamadka- Chokkadi
Students of BScCBZ were visited Chamadka Falls at Chokkadi-Pailoor for studying aquatic biodiversity and collected few specimens to preserve it in Botany dept. In this occasion students were sow more than 200 ‘Seed Balls’ in the banks of Pailoor- Chamadka stream.

Visit to Research Institution and Industry
Nature club along with Dept. of Botany and Zoology were conducted one day institutional and industrial visit to CPCRI Vittal and CAMPCO Puture. Students were got informationon Arecanut verities, Cocco plantation methods, Fish culture, Dairy farming, Grafting techniques and processing of chocolates etc. At the end of the day visited Hanumagiri Medicinal garden at Eshwaramangala.

Field Visit toAgarwood Plantation at Nidyamale- Peraje
Nature Club conducted one day Agriculture field study programme on 01/09/2017 about Agar wood crops and mixed types of Agriculture Practices at Nidyamale farms, Peraje, Madikeri, Kodagu. Resourse person Mr. JayaramaGowda shared his knowledge regarding Agar wood and other agriculture practices. Evening visited Nidyamale falls.

In this occasion we felicitated three famous Treditional Medicine Practitioners named KoosappaGowda, DevakiPanjikodi and RaghunathaAdyadka and also two paddy growers of the village Prakash and SharathAdyadka.

Field Visit-Palm plantation and Dairy
Nature club conducted field visit programme and students of BSc CBZ were got detailsabout Palm plantation by Mr. VasanthaBhat in Shree Shaila farms at Thodikana. Also visited Dairy farming and got information by Smt. PremaVasanthaBhat on 21st August 2016.

Study Tour Chikkamagalore and Hasan
Nature Club Conducted one day study tour to Mullayyanagiri, Datthapeeta, Manikyadhara falls, Jhari water falls of Chikkamagalore district and Beloor- Halebeedu Temples of Hassan district on 25th December 2016.

Field Visit at Iwarnadu, Chokkadi and Duggaladka
Nature Club Conducted one day field visit to study different agriculture practices, pepper plantation, apiculture (RaghavaGowda), vermicompost (ThirumaleshwaraBhat), dairy farm (PurushothamaKoikuli) etc at Ivarnadu, Chokkadi and Duggaladka on 19th February 2017.
National Seminar On “Ethno Science-Implications And Its Applications”
A UGC Sponsered One Day National Seminar On “ETHNO SCIENCE-IMPLICATIONS AND ITS APPLICATIONS”was organized by Departments of Botany,Zoology,Chemistry, Physics,Mathematics& Computer Science Nehru Memorial College,Sullia in collaboration with K.V.G Ayurveda Medical College and Hospital, Sullia and Vanashree Mangalore University Botany Teachers Association on 22/02/2017 at College Auditorium. Nature club students were actively participated in the arrangements and made it successful and here the students of B.Sc (BZC)- Talia Kausar, Sajani D G, AswathiChandran, Reshma K, Swetha N and Eshwar A B were presented 3 posters under gaidence of Kuladeep P P on ‘documentation of ethnobotanical values of various medicinal plants’.

Inauguration and Key note Address by Prof. K. R. Chandrshekhar
Prof. K. R. Chandrshekhar, Chairman, Dept. of Applied Botany, Mangalore University, Mangalagangothri, Konaje, inaugurated the seminar on 22nd February 2017. In his inaugural and key address he gave a vast insight into the existence of ethnoscience and its appications to our daily life

Presidential address by Dr. K. V. Chidananda
Dr. K V Chidananda, president of Academy of Liberal Education was the chairperson of inaugural session. He asserted that the ethnomedicalpractices undertaken by traditional healers has a great influence on the modern day medicine.

Technical Session- I on ‘Ethnoscience- present and future prospectives’
Resource person :Dr.JayakaraBhandary M The first technical session was on ‘Ethnoscience- present and future prospectives’. Dr.JayakaraBhandary M. Associate professor, Head of the Botany Dept., Govt. Arts & Science College (Autonomous) Karwar, Uttara Kannada was the resource person. He exemplified the plenty of fruitful part interactions between ethnoscience and modern science from selected local culture of Karnataka. He also out threw his views on local time tested tradition models of resource harvesting and ecosystem management which may provide valuable inputs towards meeting contemporary global challenges like biodiversity conservation, sustainable management of natural resources and sustainable development.

Technical Session –II on“Ethnoscience- its evolution towards drugs”
Resource Person :Dr.Gurushankara P. The second session was on ‘Ethnoscience- its evolution towards drugs’. Dr.Gurushankara P., Department of Animal Science, School of Biological Science, Central University of Kerala, Kasaragod as the resource person strongly stressed on how rich knowledge from different traditional system of medicine like Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani, Yoga, Homeopathy, Naturopathy, can lead to new avenues in the drug discovery process.

Technical Session III Paper Presentation by delegates
The delegates presented 26 research papers on various topics related to the main and sub themes of the proposed seminar. In their papers they explored the important aspects of ethnoscience in the area of Ethnobotany, Ethnoecology, Ethnozoology, Ethnopharmacy, Ethnoagriculture, Ethnomathematics, Ethnoastronomy, Myths and Physics, Traditional medicine and its documentation, Traditional knowledge/ Indigenous knowledge, Medicinal plants and its conservation etc.

Poster presentation competition
The students and faculties from various colleges of Shimoga, Udupi, Kodagu, Dakshina Kannada of Karnataka, Kerala and Goa were actively participated in the poster presentation competitions held at indoor of Nehru Memorial College. There were 43 posters displayed and presented by the students and delegates.

Exhibition
A special exhibition on ancient medicinal practices in related to Ayurveda was displayed at KVG ShastyabdhaRangamandira by the students of KVG Ayurveda Medical College and Hospital, Sullia. In this exhibition various medicinal plants, poisonous drugs, medicinal drugs, special preparations, preservation techniques and its models were explained.

Technical Session –IV on ‘ Research opportunities in ethnoscience’
Resource Person : Prof. B. K. Sarojini The last technical session was on ‘Research opportunities in ethnoscience’. Prof. B. K. Sarojini, Chairperson, Dept. of Industrial Chemistry, Mangalore University, Mangalagangothri, Mangaluru was the resource person. In her address she showed an urge to take up research in the field of life sciences, physical and chemical sciences to find newer lifesaving drugs, functional foods, and life style management techniques for the well-being of mankind.

Valedictory Address by Mr. Dinesh Nayak
Mr. Dinesh Nayak M, Environment Adviser, J.B.F. Petrochemicals Ltd. Mangalore, delivered the valedictory address. He spoke about the endangered species of plants and their medicinal uses. He also stressed on their sustainable utilization and conservation practices for the wellbeing of next generation.

Community Oriented Programme– SasyodhyanaNirmana at Ubaradka
Nature Club of NMC have conducted one day Camp under the title “ SasyodhyanaNirmana” on Sunday 09/08/2015 at Govt. Higher Primary School UbaradkaMitthur with the collaboration of Local Associations. In this programme we have planted so many medicinal and fruiting plants in school surrounding for its conservation and for the benefit of school childrens and village people. We were felicitated Paddy grower Sri Ramakrishna Madaka and famous traditional medicine practicener Sri MadhavaGowdaSulyakodi.

Conducted field visit to “ Baddekallu falls” at UbaradkaMitthur Village on 9th August 2015.

Karnataka Biodiversity Board- PBR Training
Mr. Kuladeep P.P has selected as a representative of Karnataka Biodiversity Board and has given training on January 5-8, 2016 about the preparations of PBR to PDO’s and presidents of various Gram Panchayaths in Belthangady, Puttur, Bantwal and Mangalore taluku of Dakshina Kannada.

Best Presenter Award
Students of III B.sc( CBZ) ( Kavitha .M, Prajna D.R, Priya.C, Megha T.J, Bhuvanashivaram, Kavya K.C, Vidyashree M.B, Shubashree N ) have attended 2 days State Level Conference on “ Recent Trends and Opportunities in the Study of Basic Sciences” dated July 14 – 15 ,2015 at SVS College Bantwal , Belthangady and presented scientific paper on “ Natural Mosqueto Repellents” under the guidance of Mr. Kuladeep P.P. One of the presenters of the above paper Kavitha M secured “Best Presenter Award”.
Participation in State level science speech competition
PradeepKoila of III B.Sc( CBZ) has secured first prize in District Level Kannada Science Speech Competition conducted by Karnataka State Science Council on 29-01-2016. He also participated in State level competition held at Bangalore on March 3-4, 2016. The speech was prepared under the guidance of Mr. Kuladeep P.P.
